Interview of Melissa Stokoski and Elyse Brandau by Andy Reyes
With the arrival of Sex and the City in 1998, television changed. Four fictional women from New York City transformed the way we see women in regards to relationships and sex.
Carrie Bradshaw and her friends were undoubtedly an inspiration for many women. 21 years later and it is still one of the most remembered and loved series of all time.
Speaking of Carrie is an incredible podcast based in New York City and presented by comedians Melissa Stokoski and Elyse Brandau, where, along with some cool guests, they talk about their favorite episodes of Sex and the City.
I had the opportunity to talk with these incredible women about their creative process in making Speaking of Carrie and other interesting things.
So … have a Cosmopolitan, eat some popcorn and enjoy the tour!
Tell me a bit about how you started the project Speaking of Carrie?
Both of us love SATC and being comedians so we thought it might be fun to chat about that love in a podcast and bring on guests! We asked our company if they’d be into it and they were!
In the process of creating the podcast what was the hardest thing you faced?
It was tough at first to commit to a “brand” – naming the podcast, getting a logo, figuring out where to record – doing the actual podcast was the easy part.
What has been the most listened to episode so far?
Episode 24 with Nomi Leasure.
How do you think SATC has influenced the following generations ?
I think seeing these stories on tv emboldened women and gave them a sort of permission to live life on different terms. Their own terms.
That we can be single and fabulous?
YES. ALWAYS !!
Which character do you feel you most identify with at this stage in your life?
We are both working like Miranda’s!
What are three books that every girl who loved Sex and the City should read?
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
Sex and the City and Us by Jennifer Keishen Armstrong
Wild by Cheryl Strayed
Thank you so much for chatting to me, I’ll be listening!
