Sandhya Parappukkaran

Sandhya Parappukkaran writes stories that encourage celebrating who you are, being bold and not shrinking down for anyone. Scrumptious food and glimpses of nature inspired by her Kerala Indian heritage feature heavily when she sits down to write.

Sandhya’s acclaimed picture books, all CBCA Notables, are steeped in the theme of ‘embracing your cultural identity’. Sandhya’s third book, Stay for Dinner, won the Multicultural NSW Award at the 2024 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. Her latest title with co-creator Michelle Pereira and Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing is Words that Taste Like Home.

Sandhya works at the library. She loves reading and drinking tea and usually tries to do them both at the same time. Sandhya resides in Brisbane with her husband, three children, and a backyard brimming with mango trees, curry leaves and green chillies.
