Art series by Cat Willett

My name is Cat Willett. I’ve lived in Brooklyn, NY for the last 5 years, and I’m originally from Buffalo, NY. I love to travel, gathering inspiration from foreign places and digesting it into my work. I’m super interested in horticulture, and have 26 plants in my home at the moment. I love to read, particularly about politics and sexuality, and also dreamy, surreal works like Murakami.

I’ve been drawing since I was a kid, but it wasn’t until the last few years that I started to pursue illustration more seriously as a career path. I enrolled in the MFA illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, where I’ve been able to dedicate the time to honing my voice and practice. I love working on projects that empower women and surface the stories of unknown heroes from history. My aesthetic is subdued and delicate, but still impactful.

Muses is an attempt to honor the women around me — the coworkers, the friends, the family — who are powerful and inspirational, each in their own unique way. This series is about finding vision and brilliance in my inner circle, realizing that the female voice tells a spirited story, both collective and individual.
