I first discovered Splash Blanket when I was looking for something to make those early parenting days a little easier. Nappy-free time with my baby used to be a bit of a dance with disaster as I churned through towels only to find her wees had soaked through to the carpet anyway. I heard about Splash Blanket and was sceptical at first, but can honestly say, it’s been a game-changer.
Splash Blanket’s waterproof nature means I can let my baby enjoy nappy free time without constantly monitoring for wees. It means drool, milk, and all the other messes of having a baby are covered, and because it’s made from butter-soft material, she absolutely loves it.
From dealing with periods to impromptu picnics, I’ve come to realise just how versatile Splash Blanket is (and I’m keen to buy one for myself now too!).
I also love the idea of my girls having their Splash Blankets when they get their first periods. While there should be no shame, I remember the anxiety of leaking and I know that having a comfort blanket that acts as a catch-all, would’ve been a very welcome friend as I came to learn my cycle.
As Splash Blankets newest (and dare I say biggest) fan, I wanted to find out a bit more about how it started. I was lucky enough to chat with Splash Blanket founder, Rosie Rees.
What inspired the creation of Splash Blanket, and how did you come up with the idea of combining luxury with practicality?
I created Splash Blanket as a matter of necessity! I had just started dating a woman and we were exploring sexually when she started squirting for the first time, which was exciting but also inconvenient sleeping in a wet spot every night. We were going through so many towels and sheets and using some kids bed wetting sheets – not the sexiest statement in the bedroom – so I did what I do best, and created a product that didn’t exist on the market. I wanted to design a reusable, eco-friendly blanket that was cozy, soft and practical. Initially I launched them as a “squirt blanket” under my other brand Yoni Pleasure Palace, however quickly realised how versatile they were as women were birthing on them, using them for free bleeding, as well as their pets and babies, hence why I rebranded and created a completely new business called Splash Blanket, that encompassed all aspects and uses of the blanket.
Can you tell us more about the material used for the Splash Blanket? How did you achieve the balance between durability and that butter-soft feel?
We stock a range of materials and fabrics to cater for people with different sensory preferences. The OG is the best seller as it’s the coziest and most absorbent with a thick sherpa fleece backing on one side and a plush velvet material on the other side. There is also the new Furlush Splash Blanket range coming out this year, which has a silky smooth short faux fur backing and an even more luxurious feel. And we also stock the Bamboojee range, which is 95% bamboo and spandex, making it eco-friendly and the highest quality waterproof material you can get your hands on. These styles come in flat sheets and fitted sheets, which are incredibly useful for the whole family. Our plastic waterproof layer is made of recycled plastic, which is a strong value to our company’s ethos.
What’re your favourite uses for Splash Blanket?
I am someone who constantly runs cold so admittedly in Winter I use my Splash Blanket more for non-sexual activities like cuddling on the couch, snuggling by the fire or keeping warm in the bedroom! Conversely, in summer I use the bamboo Splash Blanket when I am sweating up a storm and don’t want sweat stains on my couch, bedding or outdoor furniture by the pool. I also find hotels and airbnbs never have enough warm, cosy blankets, so I also like to travel with my Splash Blanket all over the world. I have also become a germaphobe since COVID so I always lay a Splash Blanket down over couches in hotels or Airbnbs, because you never know what’s been on them!
What has been the most innovative thing someone has used Splash Blanket for?
I witness so many people from different walks of life tag us in the various ways they use their Splash Blankets! I’ve had customers buying a blanket for elderly pets that are incontinent, protecting furniture from roof leaks, hairdressers using it while clients get their hair washed, indoor picnics for kids, free-nappy time for naked bubs, camping for warmth, chucking in the car after going to the beach, folks in wheelchairs using it over their legs when moving through the rain, protecting bed sheets from leaking breast milk during the night, baby vomit… you name it! The Splash Blanket is for all people and all messy situations – both sexy and unsexy. We are also registered with the NDIS, which is helpful for people who have a disability and can claim some money back.
