At 23 years old, Kelsea Ballerini has already proven herself in the world of country music. Her debut album, The First Time skyrocketed up the album charts peaking at number 4 whilst her lead single Love Me Like You Mean It captured the heart of country radio and fans of the genre nationwide, a feat that successfully got the single to number one.

Since her 2015 release, the star has been working hard on her sophomore album which is set to be released later on this year.

Ballerini has credited this project as being ‘one of her most personal yet.’ Last month, she released the lead single from the upcoming album Legends, a powerful tell tale anthem of heartbreak and tragedy.

“Legends is one of the first songs I wrote for the record and every time I’ve listened to it, I find a different meaning,” Ballerini shares. “It brings me back to the heartbreak I wrote it from, it makes me think of my fans and the journey we’ve shared, and now I sing it from the perspective of a legendary love story. I hope everyone hears something in it that brings them to a place of nostalgia and is as excited as I am to begin this next chapter together.”

Accompanied by a stunning, cinematic video, Legends tells the story of a couple who fall in love, get married, have a child *you know the whole fairy-tale* until one day their happy ending comes to an abrupt finish.

We didn’t do it for the fame or the glory is a line that hits home throughout the video and is belted out by Kelsea against the backdrop of nostalgia as the couples memories are played out right in front of us. Essentially, this music video is a love letter that we have all voyeuristically been given front row seats to.

Legends is arguably one of Ballerini’s best videos. It is raw and unfiltered. It is personal and gives an insightful account into the harsh realites of how relationships can play out. The cinematography of the video clearly shows how much the singer has grown as an artist in terms of creative vision and will likely be further demonstrated in her upcoming album.

On her new album in an interview with Billboard, the country singer said “It’s totally capturing the last two years of my life, which involved both a big breakup and a lot of pure growing up. Then I found the best guy in the whole world [her beau, Australian singer-songwriter Morgan Evans]. I feel like it’s just going to tell the story in that order.”

Ballerini is currently on tour with Lady Antebellum as part of their You Look Good World Tour. She will travel with the band to the UK, Ireland and Europe in October.
